Expeditions
BEAVER EXPEDITION
August 25 - 29
Level: Beginner
Ages 9-12
Cost: $350.00

A wonderful first expedition, the Beaver Expedition offers five days of exploring the headwaters of the Passagassawaukeg River in Brooks, Maine. The expedition begins at Camp Forest on Monday morning. After packing all the necessary gear and practicing with it a bit, we hike to Half Moon Pond and set up a primitive campsite. The week is spent exploring, fishing, canoeing, and visiting the beaver. A hike to the top of the mountain reveals a surprise. Although this expedition is open to all campers ages 9-12, each camper must meet certain requirements before being allowed to participate.


COYOTE MOON
July 7 - 11
Level: Intermediate
Ages 12-14
Cost: $350.00

Master the skills of the OSPREY AWARD. Coyote Moon expedition offers five days of camping in the forest mastering the skills of theOsprey Award and preparing for the Eagle. We will build a primitive shelter and sleep in it for at least one night. We will learn orientation and navigation; animal tracks and tracking. Meet the beaver, coyote, fish and loon. Learn how not to get lost and what to do if you do. Learning from natural curiosity and experience, you will become comfortable in the woods, in community and alone. As an intermediate level expedition, each camper must meet certain requirements before being allowed to participate.


FLY AWAY
July 21 - July 25
Level: Advanced
Ages 14-17
Cost: $400.00

Focusing on the skills of the Eagle Award. Travel with few supplies, using what is in your head rather than what is on your back. Working on a complete primitive camp, shelters, bow drill fires, coal burned bowls and spoons, and carrying baskets will be essential to survival while you gather wild edibles and fish for your sustenance. You will learn the skills necessary to be free onthe earth, knowinghow to received the gifts of nature. These skills build confidence, motivation and faith.
As an advanced level expedition, each camper must meet several requirements before being allowed to participate.


Mother Earth and Father Sky
August 11 - August 15
Level: Advanced
Ages 14-17 Males Only
Cost: $500.00

This expedition is based on the rites of passsage of indigenous peoples of Africa, South America and North America. In these cultures there is a specific time when a boy becomes a man. They learn the skills needed to provide for self and family. Learn the skills necessary to provide a living in the forest. This expedition will enhance confidence, and teamwork. Each young man will learn how to be comfortable in nature alone in the forest. There will be a focus on each individual boy and their special interests to assist them to bring their dreams to reality.
As an advanced level expedition, each camper must meet several requirements before being allowed to participate.


WATERSHED EXPLORATION AND RESEARCH
June 23 - June 27
Level: Advanced
Ages 14-17
Cost: $600.00

Travel the full length of the Passagassawaukeg River in Waldo County, Maine by foot and canoe from Brooks to Belfast. Starting on a mountain overlooking the journey to the ocean, we will search the journey for areas of environmental importance. Wewill journal the plant and animal habitats alongthe river. Walking and canoeign we will pass through a variety of ecosystems, note soil, rocks, plants, animals and human development.
The information gathered on this journey will be open for public inspection of the resources and current condition of this watershed.
As an advanced level expedition, each individual must meet a few requirements before being allowed to participate.


Registration Fee is a $50.00 deposit and is non-refundable.

Cancellations: An Expedition may be cancelled if there are less than the required number of participants registered. Register early to ensure your spot!

Refunds: A full refund will be issued if the expedition is cancelled due to low registration. Paid fees, except registration fee, will also be fully refunded if cancellation request is made at least one week in advance.

Registration: Expedition space is limited. Spots fill up quickly. Register early to ensure your spot. Requested expedition is considered secured upon receipt of full payment.

Camp Forest Expedition/Counselor Ratio:varies according to the expedition but is no greater than 1:5.
