POSITION:                                           

Camp Counselor or INTERN Counselor

QUALIFICATIONS:                           

Understanding of and desire to work with children

                                                                Enjoy working outdoors

Possess or be willing to learn wilderness skills

                                                                Possess or be willing to learn Leadership skills

Ability to accept supervision

Strong, honest, person of integrity

Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control

                                                                Good communication skills with both children and adults

                                                                18 years of age or older

                                                                Good physical condition

Knowledge of positive discipline, or coyote teaching

DESIRED QUALIFICATION:

Red Cross First Aid certification

Red Cross Senior Life Saving

Wilderness Skills Certification

Wilderness First Responder

EDUCATION:                                      

Minimum of a high school diploma

RESPONSIBILITIES:                          

                                                                Be at Camp Forest by 9 am until 4:30 pm Monday - Friday

Work with the director and Senior counselor to plan and carry out the activities at Camp Forest

Learn why each camper came to Camp Forest

Plan an individualized program for each camper

Maintain awareness of interpersonal camper relationships and be prepared to demonstrate positive problem solving

Work together and flexibly with counselors and campers to plan daily activities

Assume total responsibility for the health and safety of each camper

Follow established procedures for enforcing all safety regulations

Play an active role in all camp activities

Set a good example for campers and others including patience, tolerance, cleanliness, punctuality, sharing chores, and sportsmanship

Demonstrate and encourage responsibility and respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities, forest, and all living things.

Maintain good public relations with campers' parents

Promote a positive image of Camp Forest

REPORTS TO:                                     

Senior Counselor and Camp Director

INTERNS:                                             

Individualized program established between the Intern Supervisor and the Camp Director
