Opportunities for Adults

As an adult, learning basic survival skils, wild edibles, medicinal plants and crafts enriches your life, provides greater appreciation of our world and enhances your self-confidence.

As a parent, learning wilderness skills increases your ability to feel safe in the forest. Understanding the natural world enhances your ability to teach your children and releases you to allow your children to explore.

TWO HOUR WORKSHOPS
Tuesday and/or Thursday 5pm - 7pm

July 15       Simple Shelters I:     Learn the basics that could save your life in the woods.
July 17       Simple Shelters II:     Take survival shelters to the next step
July 29      Wild Plants:     Learn the edible and poisonous plants of the wild
July 31       Basic Medicinal Herbs:     Learn plants that grow around you that can help you.
August 5      Maple Bark Eye Baskets:     Make small berry baskets from maple bark.
August 7      Birch Bark Basket:     Select your bark and make a small basket.
August 19    Tree Identification & Forestry:     Learn some of the trees of the forest and their care.
August 21    Cordage:     Make cordage with natural plant fibers

SATURDAY WORKSHOPS
9 am - 4 pm Saturday at Camp Forest

July 15         Simple Shelters III:     Work on a more advanced shelter.
August 2       Wild Edibles and Herbal Medicines:     Learn and taste some of the edible plants of the Maine woods. Identify the poisonous and prepare some of the medicinal.
August 9       Basketmaking:     Learn how to use roots, bark or other materials to make useful baskets.
August 23      Basic Survival, Firemaking & Navigation:     Learn the basics that could save your life in the woods.

EXPEDITION
ADULT AND FAMILY EXPEDITION
June 30 - July 4
Level: Beginner

A wonderful first expedition for an adult or family Five days exploring the headwaters of the Passagassawaukeg River in Brooks, Maine. The expedition begins at Camp Forest on Monday morning. After packing all the necessary gear, we hike to Half Moon Pond and set up a primitive campsite. The week is spent exploring, foraging, fishing, canoeing, and visiting the beaver. A hike to the top of the mountain reveals a surprise. This expedition is open to adults and families. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Fees: are due with registration.
     Two Hour Workshop: $25 per session
     Saturday Workshop:  $80.00
     Two twos and a day (Two evening session and a Saturday) $125
     Expedition:   Adult $350  Couple $600  $200 child over 6    Free under 6

Cancellations:
Classes are cancelled on Monday of the class week if there are no registrations.
Expedition may be cancelled if there are less than 5 participants registered.
Register early to ensure your spot!

Refunds: A full refund will be issued if a class or expedition is cancelled. Paid fees will also be fully refunded if cancellation request is made at least one week in advance. If this advance notice is not given, there are no refunds of paid fees.
